Iracema (de Questembert), 2009

Video, 26:43 min.
Color, sound

Iracema, a young indigenous woman, leaves the village of Corubime in Brazil for the first time in her life the day after her twenty first birthday for Paris. There she is informed by a solicitor that her recently deceased French father, Pascal de Questembert, has left her the vast estate of the ancient de Questembert family. He also informs her that since her family had been considerable political leaders, the civic authorities are ready to purchase the estate from her. Iracema informs the solicitor that she has no intention of selling the estate and will instead remain in France. She founds the Questembert Institute for Art and Science and becomes an artists/scientist.

In 2020, Shirley founded the Shirley Djukuna Krenak Institute in the city of Governador Valadares in Minas Gerais. Follow the instituts activities on Facebook
