Almost There, 2010
Installation
A sound work with a framed photograph addresses the situation of the disenfranchised of Brazil and their attempts to participate in contemporary society. For example, in Brazil it is common practice for men who cannot afford expensive cars, to purchase key chains for such makes as a Mercedes Benz. When they arrive at restaurants or bars, they throw the keychain (to their non-existent cars) on the counter – hoping that a possible lover would be impressed. Also non-functional and therefore cheap mobile telephones can be purchased and imaginary conversations can be conducted to impress colleagues and/or lovers.
