Dicionário Krenak–Português / Português–Krenak, 2010
The Krenak-Portuguese / Portuguese-Krenak Dictionary was published by Lumiar Cité/Maumaus. Graphic design by Tam Krenak and Arne Kaiser in conjunction with the 29th São Paulo Biennal. Edition of 650 copies.
In the early twentieth century, Bruno Rudolph, a German who lived in Brazil, made a German/Krenak dictionary. Centuries of deliberate genocide committed first by the Portuguese and later the Brazilians as well as devastating cultural policies against indigenous culture, has resulted in the decimation of the Krenak language The Krenaks seeing this dictionary online, realized that it could contribute to the revitalization of their language. They requested that Alves translate the dictionary from the German into Portuguese so that their language could return to the Krenaks.
