statement
In 2001, at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin (Hanseatenweg), I was asked to moderate a conference, the title escapes me know but it was on non-European art practices. I was surprised after the first day that the speakers had been Caucasian Europeans or of European descent, such as Svea Josephy from South Africa and who presented her works which were on the non-European. It was also frustrating that funds were made available to bring a white South African to speak on the image of the Black South African struggle in the media. This was 7 years after apartheid ended, surely priority was to give an opportunity for a Black South African artist to travel and speak. I resigned.
