. A building curved to follow a bend in a canal that no longer exists on Oude Houtllei Straat in Ghent. The curve momentarily changes the distance between the building and the pedestrian. The slight curvature of the building changes the predetermined relationship between the body and the building. The pedestrian shifts on the sidewalk searching for a new balance between herself and the physicality of the building. Former pathways of the covered and unseen canals which still influence the inhabitants of Ghent were investigated and traced out on a contemporary city plan.

. The cobblestones markers were placed into streets and sidewalks which now cover the waterways.

In walking the movement of the river bodies might react to the former relationship with water and perhaps re-negotiate space.

. In cities we sometimes find it difficult to change our pace of movement. Crossing over a river, we may rarely stop to look at the river. Maybe what we perceive as time in the city might have to be momentarily restructered to permit us to stop. A large movie screen was placed in the Achtervisse River in Ghent. Pedestrians might now have the excuse of art to stop and “see” a movie. Reflections and floating objects become actors providing each spectator with their own possibility of a narrative depending on the time and day.
