"Former pathways of the covered and unseen canals which still influence the inhabitants of Ghent were investigated. Cobblestones were carved by the artist with a section of the canal that is no longer visible and then placed on streets which cover those waterways. Visitors followed the course of the cobblestone markers. In walking the movement of the river bodies might react to the former relationship with water and perhaps re-negotiate space.
Crossing a waterway, we may rarely stop to look at a river or canal. A large movie screen was placed in a canal by a bridge where pedestrians might now have the excuse of art to stop and 'see' a movie. Reflections and floating objects became actors providing each spectator with their own possibility of a narrative depending on the time of day."
