Spirit Line, 1997
Event and original edition of 10 bottles
In a unique voyage throughout New York City Subway System, each bottle of spirits in the Spirit Line series has been hand carried from the first to the last station stop in the indicated subway line. Spirit Line is inspired by the ocean voyage of the distilled alcoholic beverage, Linie Aquavit, from Norway. The oscillation resulting from speeds up to 35 miles an hour along with the vibrations caused by jerking stops and lurching starts my cause the spirits to expand or contract perhaps adding to its color and flavor thereby fortifying the vitality of the bouquet. The variations in temperature as each bottle is individually transported from street down to the lower levels contribute to the enrichment of the maturing process. Instability of gravity effecting the nutation of the center of the sprits may intensify the dimensionality of the texture and structure of the spirits. Each bottle is accompanied by photographs and a map documenting the details of the specific voyage of the individual bottle.
